Information of the client:
● Offices in US, Europe, Asia Pacific, Singapore
● Products are mainly small parts for precision toolings
● Transactions are only made online by registered
users on a single portal
● Fulfillment department to handle customer service
● 25 000 registered users with an average of 50 000
orders daily
● Peak period are april, november and december with a
minimum spike of 50% (around 75 000)
Current resources:
● On-premise 2 tier client-server architecture
● All IBM Lenovo Think Server TS450 Tower Servers
have 64GB worth of memory and runs on a quad core
Intel Xeon E3-1225 v5 processor
● First tier of 2 tier client-server runs on Microsoft SQL
server 2019 which is the application itself
● Second tier of 2 tier client-server runs on ASP.NET
which is the web application
● Starhub fibre broadband of 100MBps
Issues faced:
● Aging servers
● Frequent hard disc failure and power outage
● Difficulties processing orders especially during the 3
months of spike
Solutions:
● To change on-premises servers to Software as a
Service(SaaS)so as to accommodate the spikes
during apr, nov, dec
● Upgrade the current servers increasing the storage
memory and processor speed allowing smoother flow
online
● Keeping the fulfillment department, even though its
additional cost, helps the company lessen the
workload.
